Dishwasher Not Cleaning Dishes

Likely causes

  • Clogged or blocked spray arm holes
  • Failing water inlet valve limiting how much water fills the tub
  • Worn wash pump or motor
  • Hard water and mineral buildup coating the interior
  • Wrong detergent or expired rinse aid

Dirty or cloudy dishes are almost always a water problem, not a soap problem. We start with the spray arms — food debris commonly clogs the small holes, and a spray arm that spins but doesn’t distribute water evenly leaves dishes only partially washed. Hard water buildup on the interior and spray arms causes the same cloudy result over time.

If the spray arms are clear, we check whether the tub is filling with enough water, which points to the water inlet valve, and whether the wash pump is circulating water with enough pressure. Las Vegas’s hard water also plays a role in cloudy glassware specifically — we’ll let you know if that’s a water quality issue rather than a mechanical one.

This is one of the issues covered under our Dishwasher Repair service.
