What usually causes it

• Tripped reset button. Overload shuts off the motor.
• Tripped breaker or GFCI. No power reaches the unit.
• Worn wall switch. The switch may fail while the disposal is fine.
• Loose or damaged wiring. A connection can come loose under the sink.
• Failed motor. No hum and no power response.

What you can check yourself

• Press the red reset button. It’s on the bottom of the unit and trips on overload.
• Check the breaker and GFCI. Reset both; the GFCI may be on another outlet.
• Try the wall switch. Flip it a few times, since switches wear out.
• Listen. Silence means no power. A hum with no spin is a jam.
