Microwave Buttons or Display Not Responding
Likely causes
- ✓Worn-out membrane keypad
- ✓Loose ribbon cable connecting the keypad to the control board
- ✓Failed control board
- ✓Power surge damage to the electronics
- ✓Door switch fault blocking the control panel from responding
A keypad that’s unresponsive to some buttons but not others usually means the membrane keypad itself is wearing out — these are touch-sensitive panels that degrade with heavy use, and they’re a straightforward swap. A keypad that’s completely dead more often points to a loose ribbon cable connection between the keypad and the control board, which is even simpler to fix.
If the display is dark or flickering along with unresponsive buttons, we check for control board damage, which can happen after a power surge. On some models, a faulty door switch will also block the control panel from accepting input as a safety measure, so we rule that out before assuming the electronics have failed.
