Oven Baking Unevenly or Running Hot or Cold
Likely causes
- ✓Miscalibrated temperature sensor
- ✓Bake or broil element heating only partially
- ✓Warped or damaged door seal letting heat escape
- ✓Convection fan not running on convection models
- ✓Rack position or bakeware blocking airflow
An oven that’s consistently off by the same amount — always baking hot or always running cold — usually just needs the temperature sensor recalibrated, which is a quick, inexpensive fix. We test actual oven temperature against the setting with a separate thermometer before touching anything, since a “feels off” complaint isn’t always accurate on its own.
Uneven baking, where one side or the back cooks faster, more often points to a bake or broil element that’s heating unevenly, a door seal that’s letting heat escape on one side, or a convection fan that’s stopped running. We check the elements and door seal visually, then test the convection fan if the model has one, before recommending parts.
