Refrigerator Leaking Water
Likely causes
- ✓Clogged or frozen defrost drain
- ✓Cracked or misaligned drain pan
- ✓Loose or damaged water line fitting at the ice maker or dispenser
- ✓Door seal not sealing, causing condensation buildup
- ✓Water filter housing not seated correctly
Water pooling inside the fridge, usually under the crisper drawers, is almost always a clogged or frozen defrost drain — debris or ice blocks the small drain hole in the back of the freezer, and water backs up instead of draining to the pan underneath. This is one of the more common refrigerator calls we get, and it’s usually a quick fix.
Water on the floor in front of or under the unit points elsewhere: a loose ice maker water line fitting, a cracked drain pan, or a door seal that isn’t sealing and is letting warm air condense inside. We trace the water back to its source rather than just mopping up the symptom, since a leaking water line can cause real damage to flooring over time.
