What causes it
Too much detergent, or a non-HE detergent used in an HE machine.
What it means in practice
This isn't a failure. The washer sensed too many suds and is running extra rinses or pausing to clear them. Too much detergent, or regular detergent in a high-efficiency machine, is the usual reason.
What to check before calling
- ✓Run a rinse/spin cycle to clear excess suds.
- ✓Switch to a High-Efficiency (HE) detergent and use less than you think you need.
- ✓Let the washer finish its suds-clearing routine, which can take a while.
- ✓Use only HE detergent, and measure it carefully, using less for small or lightly soiled loads.
When to call a technician
If the code appears with the correct amount of HE detergent, a drain or sensor problem may be involved.
